A first start
When we first started it may have been: Anders “Fjodde” Forsberg Piano, Kjell Nilsson (not sure about this) on electric guitar, Peter Strömbäck electric bass, Lennart “Lello” Strömbäck electric guitar and the young man Kenneth “Nelson” on Drums. We practiced and played in the Manhem School’s music hall, which was borrowed by the Music Teacher Bertil Sjödin, and then we also got to practice in a group room next to the music hall at the Manhem School. Right away Kjell Nilsson was replaced and Kjell “Charlie” Brännholm started and eventually we called ourselves Karl XII (KalleDussin).
“This will henceforth be my music,” Charles XII is said to have said, according to Voltaire, when the bullets whizzed by his head. We thought it was fun.
I (Kenneth) think the name was actually a form of change of KALIX ie KA(+R) L XI (reversed) (+I). Guys, correct me if I’m wrong. We played rock songs including Uriah Heep’s “I Wanna be Free”.
In Forsberg’s basement
Eventually we started scratching in the basement at the Forsbergs’ house. Anders was the first of us to make our own songs which we scratched and which we recorded on Anders’ reel-to-reel tape player. In the winter, Kenneth went with his drums to Forsberg’s on a kick. Bass drum, snare drum, floor puma and hanging puma and cymbals on the kick and a hockey trunk with drum stand over the shoulder. The guitarists brought electric guitars and tube radios so they could get some “Fuzz” (overdrive) out of them and Anders bought a Wurlitzer Electric piano. We also played at school dances and recorded about 40 songs, everything from “Vad har du under Blusen Ruth” to “Smoke on The Water”. Charlie sang, and even Kenneth sang “Smoke on the Water”. We also mixed our own material into the repertoire! Poor dancing youngsters!
