Bernt Ek

It all starts in Töre, where I grew up. When I heard Nat King Cole’s song Nature Boy, I was very captivated and there awakened my interest in music. Then Elvis came with One Night With You, which was a bit heavier.

Of course, the Beatles still entered the chamber in Töre. I realized that  something big is going on here. Another song that stuck was The Last Time by the Rolling Stones because of a fantastic hook. The Kinks’ You Really Got Me was the rawest of them all.

After that, so much happened for a while. I had a desire to be able to play myself but lacked an instrument. Sometimes I went to a friend who had a guitar and could then perform Stones Satisfaction helpfully 🙂

In the mid-60s it was common to have school bands and then I got to hear different bands. In the same vein, the school decided that we should try to start our own school band. There were a few of us who were willing to test. Now it was the case that in those days everyone wanted to play the guitar. After some turbulence, I had to leave the guitar aside and pick up the bass. And stayed on that road for the rest of my life. In any case, everyone was happy and satisfied and the world got to see the band \”Day And Night\” 🙂 with drummer Erik Lindberg, guitarist Anders Brännholm and last but not least with bassist Bernt Ek who also got to roar into the microphone.

About a year later, I had the honor of hearing Jan & Gunnar Andersson at the IOGT dance and was completely taken. I talked a bit with the boys and said that I would like to play in some context. Then Janne told me about some chubby \”Roland Strålberg\” who played guitar and was also left-handed like Hendrix. There began a time of intense time with great creativity and playfulness. We were many different people who collided in CYK’s dining room.
